Production of beverage cans has started on a second line at Can-Pack SA’s newly-built plant in The Netherlands. That’s just five months after the first line started up at Helmond near Eindhoven and doubles capacity to two billion cans a year. The plant has been engineered by US-based Roeslein & Associates with the building being completed in October 2016.
While most of Can-Pack’s plants in Europe are located in the east, it has been supplying customers in western Europe for many years. The Netherlands and Belgium has a number of beer and beverage canners that fill around 6.3 billion cans a year, mostly for export, making it one of Europe’s biggest regional markets.
Can-Pack’s Helmond plant is in the Brabant region. The Brabant Development Agency (BOM) worked with the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), Brainport Development and the city of Helmond, to support Can-Pack in establishing the factory and improving distribution throughout Europe.
In the 25 years since Can-Pack built its first beverage can plant in Poland, it has grown steadily with operations in Romania, Finland, Ukraine, Russia, UAE and the UK. It has a joint venture operation in the Philippines and last year acquired its first plant in South America, the Metalic facility at Fortaleza on the north coast of Brazil and is building a plant in the south.
