Roeslein & Associates’ fabrication facility in Red Bud, Illinois received the third annual SIOSH Governor’s Award for Contributions in Safety and Health at the Southern Illinois Occupational Safety and Health (SIOSH) and SAFETYCON gathering on January 22, 2018.

This award parallels the success of Roeslein’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department the last four years. In 2017, Roeslein’s Red Bud fabrication facility reduced recordable injuries by 80 percent and recently reached 500,000 hours worked without a lost time incident (LTI). On January 23rd it reached 250 days without a recordable injury. In February, Roeslein as a whole, will hit one million hours worked without a LTI. Roeslein achieved this milestone in 2015 along with an impressive 1184 days without a LTI in Red Bud.

Roeslein formalized its Human Resources and Safety Program five years ago. Shortly after, Ryan Kirkpatrick was brought on as an EHS Manager to lead and develop the department. Together, the HR and EHS departments have worked to build and strengthened its safety program. “We have made copious amounts of progress since the start of our safety program. I look forward to seeing what the future brings for Roeslein and our employee owners,” said Human Resources Manager, Sarah Davidson.

For both Davidson and Kirkpatrick, the Governor’s award and other recent awards, such as the St. Louis Business Journal’s Best Places to Work Award, solidify that a comprehensive plan addressing Safety and Health is the right approach for their team.

Kirkpatrick commented, “Roeslein’s accomplishments and milestones in the last five years have not only made me proud, but everyone in the organization from the top down. When you have a strong EHS management system, a comprehensive wellness program, and have the support of the whole organization, it makes a world of difference; we can see this as our employee owners and daily processes become safer and safer.”

Notably, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner visited Roeslein in December along with Senator Paul Schimpf where they had the opportunity to tour the facility and speak to the employees. Rauner and Schimpf applauded Roeslein on its recent safety milestones and discussed the successes and challenges Roeslein has endured over the years and what challenges it foresees in the future, including global economics and regulations to how to get more funding for skilled trade trainings, courses and apprenticeships.

Hayden Wrecking also received the SIOSH Governor’s Award for the construction industry.
