Packaging - Aluminum Can Lines
In the colonial times, Toluca first gained economic importance as a producer of smoked and cured meats, especially chorizo sausage. Since those times, Toluca's economy has expanded far beyond sausage to become one of the most industrialized areas in Mexico. Its geographic position in the center of the country and proximity to Mexico City as well as its well-developed infrastructure, have allowed Toluca to grow into a major industrial zone for the state. Since Toluca began industralization in the 1940’s, the trend has not stopped. Although most industrial enterprises are on the micro-level, the city has attracted a large number of international corporations. Major products produced include food processing, metals, machinery, paper products, as well as automobile production.
One of the major corporations that Toluca has attracted is Fabricas Monterrey, a major enterprise in the beverage packaging industry. Since the production factory for 2-piece can lines originally opened in Toluca in 1969, there have been major imporovements and expansions.
Roeslein had the opportunity to return to Toluca about 16 years after the original project to complete an expansion for Fabricas Monterrey’s Line 1. Roeslein provided services for all 4 phases of the project, from preliminary engineering to installation and comissioning.
Almost everyone at Roeslein quickly became involved in this project because it was both a great business opportunity and a chance to see old friends and look at how things had changed over the years.
This project is often described as the “changing of the guard.” For engineering and installation of the line originally, many of the same people were involved, but there were also many young faces that joined the project team for the expansion. It was most special for those who had been with the companies for both projects, because they were able to see others complete those same tasks they had done almost 16 years ago.
This project was a great learning experience for all involved, because the new team members were mentored by those who had come before them and the older team member were able to grow from the past experience. It gave all the opportunity to see how much we have all changed and grown, but those friendships made will last forever.
